How to watch movies with your friends on Netflix Watch Party

It works like this: you and your buddies each log in to your own Netflix accounts. Netflix Party has a text chat function on the side of the screen (similar to what YouTube does during a live stream) so you and your friends can react and chat in real time.

To throw a Netflix party:

• First install the extension.
• Open Netflix and begin watching a video.
• The Netflix Party extension icon should have changed from grey to red next to your address bar. Select it by clicking on it.
• You’ll be prompted to “Create a Netflix Party” in a window that appears. You can choose to give yourself complete control over the playback or to leave it open to anyone. “Start the party” should be selected.
• A link will appear in a new window. Copy the URL and send it to your friends. You can access this site by clicking the Netflix Party extension icon if necessary.
• Netflix Party will generate a symbol for you automatically. You can modify it (there are a few options) as well as your nickname by clicking on the symbol.
